When the widget initially loads, it shows all the events and after that users can filter the list based on the fields. It would be nice to be able either pass a parameter in the widget link or select a default filter using one of the fields to initially show certain events based on that filter rather than all. For example, show only current year events on initial load.

Follow up question: The filtered events seem to be showing up as empty boxes/lines at the bottom. Any way to hide them completely?
